Building a shared archive to capture the lived experience of grief

Among many other projects, Dr. Lonneke Lenferink and her team have been at the forefront of studying grief in daily life. Through her work, she discovered firsthand how challenging it can be to ask participants to take part in long-term studies, responding to questions multiple times a day. Even with participant-friendly approaches and purpose-built apps, conducting this kind of research is no small task.

That’s why we believe in sharing our work and collaborating with other researchers who study grief in daily life and we are working every day to make research more FAIR—Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. By bringing together existing efforts, we can unlock new ways of looking at grief beyond retrospective measures.

Together with Dr. Justina Pociūnaitė-Ott, as part of her postdoctoral fellowship, we created Grief-ID Archive—a resource designed to make sharing and reusing grief data easier for researchers everywhere. This would not have been possible with the support of Trauma Data Institute.
